The MMC is its major campus, spanning 342 acres with a plethora of dining options, roomy living alternatives, and spectacular recreational centers. More than 400 student-athletes at the university have participated in 45 NCAA tournaments and together earned 116 All-American titles. Over the years, the FIU Athletic Department has also produced a large number of professional and Olympic athletes. Olympic track and field gold medallist Tayna Lawrence and American football wide receiver T.Y. Hilton are two well-known athletes who attended FIU. You may be the next big thing from FIU!
FIU’s mascot, Roary the Gold Panther, was inspired by the native Florida panther and is known for encouraging the student body at sporting events. Remember that he’s not a real panther, so don’t be terrified if you see him. He doesn’t bite. He virtually never wears anything other than a blue FIU shirt, which stands for the official university colors of blue and gold. The football team at FIU prepares and plays its home games at the Riccardo Silva Stadium, sometimes referred to as “The Cage.” The stadium is home to the Athletics Hall of Fame, a high-tech grass field, a Jumbotron screen, and a retail section.
